A retreat to come home to
Welcome to 655 Union, a boutique collection of 193 apartments at the nexus of Gowanus and Park Slope. Located just steps from the R train and three subway stops from Manhattan’s vibrant pulse, the building blends high-end design with first-class amenities and exciting programming.
Every residence is designed to capture light and boasts refined finishes, smart layouts, ample storage space, and modern conveniences such as washers and dryers. At Club Union, the building’s extensive amenity space on the top floor, find a suite of community offerings that support your whole being, including a coworking lounge and a fully equipped gym.
Rising 162 feet, 655 Union marries Gowanus’s historic grit with its contemporary renaissance.
Considered design
655 Union is defined by high-end, thoughtful design. In the lobby, refined millwork, recessed lighting, and ivory terrazzo floors offer a warm welcome into the building. Walking from the front entrance towards the mailroom is a contemporary exploration of Frank Lloyd Wright’s compression and release architecture, where compact passageways open to grand volumes and create a sense of movement and dimension.
Several unique aesthetic motifs also speak to the building’s high level of detail, such as the deliberate use of concrete throughout the building. Historically a construction material, the brutalist emblem is reimagined in conscious moments throughout the interiors, offering a nod to Gowanus’ industrial past while encapsulating its current identity as an energetic residential area. Most strikingly, concrete is seen in a bespoke light installation in the coworking space. This fixture also mirrors a perforated ceiling in the elevator cab and detailing on the mailboxes in the lobby.
Building
Bold and distinct, the industrial-inspired facade takes cues from the neighborhood’s roots as a manufacturing and shipping hub. A refined concrete base gives way to steel beams forming a modern interpretation of factory-style windows. A densely planted rooftop hints at the building’s emphasis on indoor-outdoor living.
Inside, home is not confined to your unit. Find the Wellness Studio on the second floor, offering a restful space for yoga, meditation, reformer pilates, and barre workouts. Bathed in soft, indirect light, residents can book the room for private fitness lessons and more. From here is easy access to the Sunset Garden, a 2,125-square-foot soothing outdoor oasis completed with stunning landscaping and abundant room for yoga or meditation, gathering with friends, or simply finding space for solitude.
There’s no need to squeeze vitamin D into your day, thanks to 655 Union’s sophisticated architecture that emphasizes indoor-outdoor living.
Upon entering, residents are immediately met with a verdant, heavily planted vestibule, setting the pace for a residence in constant conversation with nature and the world outside. Throughout the building, fresh air and sunlight are rarely more than a few steps away. In Club Union, interior and exterior spaces flow seamlessly from one to the next: In the study, take a call in one of the four phone booths, then a breather on the connected sky terrace before getting back to work. Heat up with a workout, then cool off with a dip in the outdoor pool.
On the second floor, the Sunset Garden ebbs into the Wellness Studio, while a number of residences in the Members Penthouse, the two uppermost floors in the building, offer wrap-around terraces for private alfresco entertaining.
